The Future of Agile Hive for Jira Data Center
With Atlassian announcing the End-of-Life (EOL) for Data Center, effective March 28, 2029, we’ve compiled a comprehensive informational and how-to guide for seamlessly transitioning our customers to Agile Hive for Jira Cloud.
Data Center End-of-Life
With Atlassian’s announcement of the discontinuation of support for Data Center (DC) effective March 28, 2029, and their refocusing of resources to Cloud, we at Agile Hive have accordingly redirected our focus on Jira Cloud development for the future of our product. Therefore we are shifting development capacities into Agile Hive for Jira Cloud while Agile Hive for Jira Data Center is going into maintenance mode.
Atlassian has been shifting to a cloud-first strategy in recent years and investing heavily in its subscription-based Atlassian Cloud. Against this backdrop, Atlassian’s recent announcement does not come as a complete surprise; nevertheless, for many organizations, we at Agile Hive understand it represents a turning point that raises many questions, creates uncertainty, and accelerates planning efforts.
Over the next few years, Atlassian will gradually phase out Data Center, with the intent of giving current customers time to transition to Cloud. But don’t worry: if you currently use Data Center, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about the timeline and the individual steps involved here within this resource. March of 2029 might sound like a long way away, but a comprehensive migration strategy takes time to be completed properly.

March 30, 2026
End-of-Sale to New Customers
From this date going forward:
No new Data Center licenses will be sold to new customers
Atlassian Marketplace apps for Data Center will no longer be available for purchase to new customers
If you are not using Data Center as of this date, you will not be able to purchase it.
March 30, 2028
End-of-Sale to Existing Customers
For existing customers, the following changes will be implemented:
No new Data Center licenses will be sold to existing customers
Renewals of existing Data Center licenses will cease
Marketplace apps for Data Center will no longer be available to existing customers
If you are still using Data Center as of this date, you should research alternatives and migration options.
March 28, 2029
End-of-Life for Data Center
This is the final step in this journey:
All licenses for the Data Center products and associated Marketplace app expire
Data Center servers will switch to read-only mode and can no longer be used in a production environment
After this date, you will no longer be able to actively use Data Center and its applications. It is important, before this date, to have migrated all existing data to Atlassian Cloud.
What does End-of-Life mean for DC customers?
First and foremost, we are still offering Agile Hive for Data Center until the end and will continue to support your needs through that point in time. New features and functionality will not be added to the Data Center application, while those efforts will be directed toward our Jira Cloud version. We will most certainly address any issues or bugs to ensure our Data Center product runs smoothly until the end.
